U12 | 5th & 6th Grade

Competition & Travel

At this level boys and girls are separated to form their own teams. They compete against other towns and clubs and travel to neighboring towns. For the 2021 Fall Season, players with birth years of 2010 & 2011 should register at this level. Players who are still in 6th Grade and have a birth year of 2009 may also register at this level. These players however to not qualify for the Premier Team due to age restrictions.

Training Sessions

  • Season: Begins the third week in August and concludes by third week of October

  • Training Days / Times: Mondays & Thursday 5:30–7:00pm
    At the beginning of the season while there's more daylight, evening trainings may extend until 7:30pm.

  • Location: Cambridge Community Center

Coaches will be evaluating players during the first week of practice in order to create evenly matched teams. These sessions will also be used for coaches to assess those that meet the standards for the Premier Team.

Skills

U12 Players will develop and improve the following:

  • Feints with the ball

  • Receiving bouncing & air balls with the thigh & chest

  • Heading to score goals & for clearances while standing or jumping

  • Outside of foot pass

  • Bending shots

  • Crossing to the near post space & the penalty spot space

  • Heel pass

  • Flick pass

  • Introduce chipping to pass

  • Introduce half volley & volley shooting

  • Introduce slide tackle

U12 Goalkeepers will develop and improve the following:

  • Footwork

  • W grip

  • Bowling

  • Low dives & forward diving

  • Angle play

  • Near post play

  • Introduce deflecting & boxing

  • Sidewinder kick

Club Teams

  • Match Days: Saturdays

We are an all-inclusive Club—whoever wants to play, plays, with proper registration. All registered players play at the club level. Coaches try their best to give equal playing time to all players at the club level. Club Teams will participate in the Morrisville Soccer League (www.morrisvilleyouthsoccer.com).

League matches are held on Saturdays in Fletcher, Cambridge, Westford, Hyde Park, Johnson, Eden, Morrisville, and Stowe. Club Teams may schedule additional matches later in the season during regularly scheduled training sessions against other area teams. Club Teams will participate in one tournament—The Cambridge Tournament, where teams play three 30 minute matches.

Premier Teams

  • Match Days: Sundays

This team will be comprised of players from the Club that want to play at a higher level; and display the skills, leadership, and sportsmanship that is expected at this level of play. This level requires a bigger commitment from players & families. Premier teams will participate in the Vermont Soccer League (www.vermontsoccer.org). All matches are played on Sundays at the Tree Farm Complex in Essex Junction, Vermont. Premier teams have the option of participating in one tournament—The Baily Memorial Tournament in Stowe for additional fees.
